My Favorite Adventurous Colorado Elopement + Engagement Locations

All of the Colorado mountain locations listed below are some great locations for couple sessions and elopements. They are all within 2 hours from Denver, with incredible mountain views! If you really want an adventurous vibe, these are some great options. Most of these spots don’t require a huge hike, although we can always do a bigger hike if you’re up for it! Hiking further allows for even more epic views, more of an adventure, and fewer people around!

Guanella Pass (1.5 hr from Denver)

Guanella Pass is a perfect location for couples looking for a picturesque and secluded spot for their engagement photos or elopement. The sprawling mountain views and natural beauty of the area create a romantic and intimate atmosphere. Every part of the year is gorgeous, with golden hues during the fall season, and bright hues popping out during the spring and summer seasons! Simply put, Guanella Pass is breathtaking. You just can’t go wrong choosing this spot for your special day.

Blue Lakes in Breckenridge (1.5-2 hr from Denver)

Blue Lakes, located in Breckenridge, Colorado, is a magnificent location for engagements or elopements. The serene alpine lakes surrounded by towering mountain peaks and vibrant wildflowers provide a breathtaking backdrop. Blue Lakes allows you to adventure and truly enjoy the scenery. With all of the different spots within Blue Lakes, it allows for a variety of backdrops throughout your day! In summertime we might even find fields of columbines. By choosing this location, you’ll get incredible views of the lake and mountains, and soak in the vibrant colors of nature around!

Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins (1.5 hr from Denver)

Horsetooth Reservoir, located in Fort Collins, Colorado, is a spectacular location for engagements or elopements due to the huge pine trees and panoramic water views. This spot is ideal if you are looking for an adventurous feel to your engagement or elopement, without needing to hike a ton. With a variety of scenic spots and activities to choose from, Horsetooth Reservoir is a great spot to capture the essence of your love story.

Sapphire Point/Lake Dillon in Breckenridge (1.5 hr from Denver)

Sapphire Point, overlooking Lake Dillon in Breckenridge, Colorado, is a remarkable location for engagements or elopements. The panoramic views of the lake and the mountains in the background make it a really awesome spot to not only celebrate your love but enjoy the nature around you. Sapphire Point Overlook can actually be reserved for wedding ceremonies, so if you’re planning to have more than 10 guests for your elopement and are nervous about finding space for everyone, this location is a great option! Reservations open up 6 months ahead of the date, and go quickly, so be prepared to reserve as soon as your date becomes available!

Vail (1.5 hr from Denver)

Everything from its charming European-style village, mountain scenery, and abundance of year-round outdoor activities means your day is going to be epic. Whether you’re looking for a cozy winter elopement or a scenic summer engagement, Vail truly does have it all! Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park offer stunning locations for engagements or elopements with endless scenic mountain views, crystal-clear lakes, and abundant wildlife. Rocky Mountain National Park is situated on a spectacular range of mountains that spans across 415 miles, and is home to incredible wildlife. Estes Park is the mountain town hub right next to RMNP, and there is something for everyone here! Scenic mountain drives, hundreds of hiking trails for all difficulty levels, and delicious restaurants are all easy to find here. Honestly, it’s great for any occasion! Plus, it is the best distance from Denver to make you feel like you are a world away but still close to home.

Garden Of The Gods in Colorado Springs (1.5 hr from Denver)

Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is a beautiful and truly unique location for engagements or elopements. The towering red rock formations and the area’s natural beauty create a memorable backdrop for your special day. It seriously is a breathtaking place! Every turn you make you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what you see – gorgeous fields filled with local flora, large red rock formations, mountain backdrops, and more! Loveland Pass (1.5 hr from Denver)

Crested Butte, located in southwestern Colorado, is a picturesque location for engagements or elopements with its charming Victorian town, stunning mountain scenery, and abundance of outdoor activities. The area offers a range of options for what you can do during your engagement or elopement! There are ski and mountain bike trails that we can hike through or even set up a campsite with your favorite tent to capture your adventurous side. Crested Butte is known for its colorful aspen trees in the fall and lush wildflower fields during the summer! When I say that this spot is picturesque I really do mean it!

Great Sand Dunes National Park (4 hr from Denver)

Great Sand Dunes National Park, located in southern Colorado, is a unique and fun location for engagements or elopements! It has iconic towering sand dunes, mountain views, and pristine natural surroundings. This park is known for being open 24/7 year round. This means you can always have this as an option for your engagement or elopement, and stay to stargaze after the sun goes down! One of my favorite things to do with my couples is run through the sand as fast as you can. We always end up laughing and having so much fun together! Dogs are also welcome here!
